Doctors Use new technique for successfully removing clots from German Journalist's brain

A German journalist who had come to cover men’s hocky world cup 2023 organize in Odisha and suffered stroke during his visit to Jaipur as tourist has started walking again after being provided treatment with new Neurointervention mechanical thrombectomy procedure for retreving clots from brain artery at a private hospital in Jaipur.

The mechanical thrombectomy procedure is a new technique in which doctors remove clots in the brain by entering a catheter through a Thai just like cardiac interventions remove clots from heart arteries without surgery.

The forty nine year old journalist, after covering the hocky world cup, had gone to visit Taj Mahal in Agra where he suffered brain stroke. He was unaware about his condition and continue his visit, but started facing weakness in the body.

“Usually, 4.5 hrs are crucial in treatment of brain stroke after the onset. In 4.5 hrs of onset of brain stroke, an injection is given for dissolving blood clots and restore blood flow to the brain.

But, the patient was brought to us after 22 hrs of onset of stroke. In a relatively new mechanical thrombectomy neurointervention procedure, the treatment can be given within 24 hrs of onset of symptoms. The patient had already lost 22 hrs,” said Dr. Madan Mohan Gupta, consultant/Neurointervention and a last clot was retreved in the first pass.

After the procedure, he was fine and able to move the left side of his body. He was able to walk independently and had a good recovery from the brain stroke after 2 days. The patient was discharged in good condition and returned to Germany without any complications.

Neurointervention mechanical thrombectomy can be done after 24 hrs in acute ischemic a stoke in selected cases, like in this case the doctors did this procedure in 22 hrs.

Acute ischemic stroke-22hours onset Treatment- Neurointervention Mechanical thrombectomy

Recovered fully - 46 yr old gentleman, He Came from Germany to India for a visit. Unfortunately he had brain stroke in agra during his visit. He reached to our hospital, jaipur around 22 hours after onset of brain stroke. His CT scan and angiography showed Right MCA ischemic Stroke with large vessel occlusion. We took him for Neurointervention procedure in Cathlab immediately as his left side of body was paralysed and he was not able to move his left hand and left Leg. As 24 hours is the window period for Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in selected cases. Immediately MT Neurointervention procedure was done in Cathlab and large clot was retrieved in first pass. After the procedure he was fine and able to move left side of body. He was able to walk independently and had good recovery from brain stroke after 2 days. 54 yr old gentleman came with posterior circulation stroke in window period. He was not able to stand, having difficulty in speech and vision.
